Sonya Wheeler Rich

Councilwoman Sonya Wheeler Rich is seeking her first elected term as a representative for the Enterprise City Council, District 1, in the upcoming Enterprise municipal election in August.

For the past three years, Rich has had the opportunity to be a member of the governing body in the city she grew up in. Rich was appointed to the council to represent District 1, and became the first African-American female ever to sit on the Enterprise City Council.

When asked about making history, she states that yes, she is proud to have made history, but she is more proud to have had the opportunity to serve as a voice for the people of District 1.

“I’m more proud to have helped make decisions for the people who make up this great city – decisions that have advanced the growth of our communities and improved overall quality of life. It has been the greatest privilege of my life,” says Rich.

Rich is a native of Enterprise and a 1992 graduate of Enterprise High School. She is a graduate of Auburn University and Capella University. She is married to JL Rich, and is the daughter of Gloria Wheeler and the late Paul C. Wheeler Jr. She is employed with the State of Alabama at the Coffee County Department of Human Resources.

Rich stated that she never really doubted that she could serve in the capacity in which she has served. The confidence was there, and now she has the experience that comes with the chair. She further stated that she would not only be honored, but grateful, to be elected to serve another four years.
