Members of the Level Plains City Council unanimously approved a motion during an April 15 meeting to agree to a payment not to exceed $750 to Polyengineering of Dothan.
The city is continuing in its mission to be issued its own area code.
Polyengineering is being hired to produce a map of Level Plains that would include the entire area of the desired zip code.
The map, city clerk Pat Wambles said, would also help the city with future projects.
In other news, councilmembers approved an amendment to Resolution 257, to add a captain’s pay to the police pay scale.
Level Plains Police Officer Johnny Williams was recently promoted to the level of captain, and councilmembers agreed to pay $11.65 an hour for the position.
The city council is still searching for a new police chief after the recent retirement of Chief Lanice Bonds.
The city has set an April 25 deadline to apply. Those interested can apply at the police department in city hall.
Councilmembers also agreed to use funds out of the capital projects to install a privacy fence near city hall around the area the city keeps equipment.
The council also agreed to install a new chain link fence at the city’s baseball field.
The city is currently seeking prices for the projects.
The next city council meeting is at 6 p.m., May 6, at city hall.
