The Level Plains City Council unanimously agreed to purchase a service truck during a Nov. 20 meeting.

The 2005 Chevrolet Silverado will be used by the city’s Street Department.

Burton Farm and Construction Equipment over the vehicle at a reduced price as a gift, and the city purchased the Silverado for $12,000.

Police Chief Lanice Bonds also announced the hiring of new police officer Chris Mason to the council.

Mayor Bruce Grantham welcomed Mason and invited him to the council’s next meeting.

The council also discussed changing the way it handles supplying and laundering the uniforms of the Level Plains Water Department.

The city currently uses the Montgomery-based G & K Uniform Services at an approximate cost of $300 a month.

A uniform committee, consisting of council members Phillip Cole and Ronnie Thompson, will address the council with new uniform suggestions at its next meeting.

In other business, the council agreed to sell a city-owned 1996 Ford F-250 through govdeals.com.

The minimum bid was set at $2,000.

The council also agreed to move its next meeting from Dec. 4, to 6 p.m., Dec. 3.

The date change was proposed because City Clerk Pat Wambles will be attending training for city clerks sponsored by the Alabama League of Municipalities on Dec. 4.

The Level Plains City Council meets at 6 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month in the Level Plains Community Center.
