The man who has served as Windham Elementary School principal since 2005 will be the principal of the soon to reopen Daleville Middle School.
Chris Mitten was unanimously approved for the position during the Daleville Board of Education meeting April 22.
Mitten has been with the Daleville City Schools since 1999 serving as the NOVA Guidance and Learning Center Principal, and Title 1 Teacher. Before that he served as a fourth and fifth grade teacher at Western Heights Elementary School in Eufaula.
Mitten’s wife, Christie Tomberlin Mitten, is the principal at Holly Hill Elementary School in Enterprise. The couple have two children.
Windham fifth grade teachers transferring to DMS are Savannah Dunaway, Bethany Goad, Kimberly Newby and Carley Simmons.
Windham sixth grade teachers transferring to DMS are Jacqueline Hines, Tracy Odom, Olivia Laaker and Cassidy Mulcahy.
Windham Elementary School Secretary Janet Nabinger is also transferring to Daleville Middle School.
In unrelated personnel action, the board approved the non-renewal of Daleville High School Science Teacher Elizabeth Samuy.
Other non-renewals who were rehired are WES Pre-K auxiliary teacher Kim Cook and WES physical education teacher Taylor Hatcher.
Emily Shultz Trantham was hired as a Daleville City Schools special education teacher.
The next meeting of the Daleville BOE is Wednesday, May 20, at the Daleville High School Cafeteria. The meeting is open to the public.
