The New Brockton Gamecocks will square off against Goshen on Friday, May 20, at 7 p.m. in Gamecock Stadium for a Spring game to wind up Spring training.
Grades 9-12 will be competing and five quarterbacks will be vying for the starting job this fall with Kaden Cupp graduating. Cupp has been the starting quarterback for the Gamecocks for four years and holds the school record for total yards.
“As we go through the summer, we’ll figure out who it’s (the starter) going to be,” said Holmes.
This fall the Gamecocks will open the season with a non-region game at home against Elba on Aug. 19. That will be followed by seven region games against Opp at home on Aug. 26, Providence Christian on the road Sept. 2, Daleville at home on Sept. 9, Houston Academy on the road Sept. 16, Pike County at home Sept. 30, Straughn on the road Oct. 7 and Ashford at home on Oct. 14 before they play a non-region game on the road against Headland on Oct. 21. New Brockton will wrap up the season Oct. 28 on the road with a region game against Northside Methodist before the playoffs begin.
The Gamecocks are looking to improve on their 2021 record after going 4-6 overall and 1-5 in 3A Region 2.
