The Enterprise baseball team traveled to Gulf Shores during Spring Break to participate in the Gulf Coast Classic and came away with a 3-1 record while pitching three shutouts in their wins.
The Cats opened the tournament with a 10-0 win over West Point with Brady Richardson throwing a complete game shutout allowing only one hit on Monday, March 28.
Enterprise opened the scoring in the first inning plating four runs. Jack Williams started things off taking first on an error and stealing second. He was followed by a line drive single to right field by Noah Loy. Both runners scored on a fly single to right field by Will Powell. Tysen Cole finished out the scoring in the inning with a ground ball single to center field to score two more runners.
Richardson had six strikeouts in five innings. He also went 1-for-2 with 1 RBI.
Loy went 2-for-3 with a triple scoring two runs. Powell went 2-for-2 scoring two runs and 3 RBIs. Cole went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs.
Enterprise had eight hits in the game, no errors and left five men on base. West Point had one hit, two errors and left four men on base.
Enterprise 10, Decatur Heritage 0
The Cats finished March 28 with another shutout defeating Decatur Heritage 10-0. The teams were scoreless until the top of the third when Enterprise scored six runs to break open the game.
Owen Burrow started off the third with a walk and was brought home by Williams who had a line drive double to right field. Loy singled on a ground ball to the shortstop, Drew Shiver reached on an error by the shortstop and Williams scored. Payton Easterling hit a fly to right field and Loy scored. Powell was hit by a pitch and the bases were loaded. Richardson and Burrow followed up with a single each to score the final two runs of the inning.
Austin Acreman pitched all five innings of the shutout for the Cats giving up four hits with nine strikeouts.
Shiver led the Cats at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double scoring three runs and 2 RBIs. Easterling went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, Williams went 1-for-3 with a double scoring two runs and 1 RBI, Powell went 2-for-3 with a double scoring one run and Cole went 1-for-3 with a double scoring one run.
Enterprise had 12 hits, no errors and left eight men on base while Decatur Heritage had four hits, five errors and left five men on base.
Enterprise 12, Shoals Christian 0
Two pitchers combined to throw a shutout as Enterprise defeated Shoals Christian 12-0 in the game on Tuesday, March 29.
Enterprise opened up the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning adding four more in the bottom of the third and six more in the bottom of the fourth.
Austin Chappell earned the win for the Cats giving up only two hits in four innings of work with five strikeouts. Easterling closed on the game with no hits and three strikeouts.
Powell went 2-for-3 at the plate scoring one run and 1 RBI. Loy went 2-for-4 with a double scoring two runs and 1 RBI. Burrow went 2-for-2 scoring two runs and 2 RBIs while Shiver went 1-for-2 scoring two runs an 1 RBI.
Enterprise had eight hits, one error and left five men on base while Shoals Christian had two hits, three errors and left three men on base.
Phil Campbell 8, Enterprise 5
The Cats finished the tournament on Wednesday, March 30, when Phil Campbell managed to plate three runs in the top of the eighth to beat Enterprise 8-5. The game had been tied 5-5 until the extra inning.
Burrow started the game on the mound for Enterprise pitching six innings and giving up five runs on four hits with nine strikeouts. Pittman Hall came on in relief and pitched one and one-third innings giving up three runs and three strikeouts. Powell finished the final two-thirds of an inning giving up only one hit.
Shiver led the Cats at the plate going 3-for-4 scoring one run and 2 RBIs. Richardson went 2-for-4 with a double scoring one run and 1 RBI and Cole went 2-for-4 scoring one run and 1 RBI.
Enterprise had 11 hits, two errors and left 10 men on base while Phil Campbell had only five hits, three errors and left four men on base.
