The Enterprise High School boys golf team traveled to Huntsville on May 9 and 10 to compete in the finals of the AHSAA 7A State Tournament and finished third out of the top four.
Vestavia Hills won the state championship shooting a 590 final score. Auburn shot a 595 final score. Enterprise shot a final score of 612.
“It was a better day for the Cats today, but not quite the ending to the season that I had hoped,” said EHS golf coach Rex Bynum. “The team posted three good scores today, but lacked that fourth good score. That has plagued this team the entire season, not posting four good scores on a consistent basis.”
On the first day, Jon Ed Steed shot a 73, Nick Cook shot a 73, Jackson Bailey shot an 81, Gibson Charlton shot an 83 and Hunter McCarty shot an 86. On the second day, Steed shot a 72, Cook shot a 72, Charlton shot a 75, McCarty shot an 83 and Bailey shot an 87
“I take full responsibility for that. It is my job as the coach to have the team prepared to play its best each and every day and I failed to do that,” said Bynum.
“I am proud of these young men for representing their school, their community, their country club, their families, and me in a first class manner. They are good players and even better people,” said Bynum. “And the good news is they all return next season to get another chance to bring home that blue championship trophy.”
