Aiden White (1) looks down field for an open receiver.

The Enterprise Wildcats took the field for the first time under Head Coach Ben Blackmon on Thursday, May 12, for an intra-squad Blue and White scrimmage with players having an opportunity to showcase what they have learned during Spring practices.

“I thought last night (Thursday) was pretty good,” said Blackmon. “Obviously we have a lot to work on but I think offensively and defensively transitioning to two new systems and a whole new coaching staff, whole new verbiage and a whole new way of how we do things, I thought the kids had a really good spring.”

One of the positions Blackmon is looking to fill is at quarterback. The starter last year, Quentin Hayes, is graduating and moving on to play at the Air Force Academy. Upcoming senior Aiden White ran with the first team followed by Jackson Bailey with the second team and Tal Sessions with the third team.

The system set up by Blackmon for the intra-squad scrimmage consisted of eight plays by the first team, six plays by the second team and four plays by the third team then the rotation would begin again. The freshman squad was thrown in ever so often to get some reps for them, also.

Enterprise is now running a spread offense and put the ball in the air over 45 times during the scrimmage from different positions on the field.

The Cats have only had eight days of full speed practice in pads with the scrimmage Thursday the last one. “After only eight days, I felt good about it,” said Blackmon.

“There were some things we can build off of going into the fall. As a coach you see a negative play here and a negative play there and you think you didn’t do real well. But you watch the film and think, man, we’re so close.

“There were just little things,” Blackmon said. “We’ve got to continue to rep through the summer.”

Enterprise will take off for two weeks then return for summer workouts. They will play in a 7-on-7 camp June 16 at Auburn, a 7-on-7 camp at Foley from June 29-30 and then host a 7-on-7 camp at Enterprise High School on July 13.
