The New Brockton Gamecocks (4-2, 1-2) will hit the road this Friday, Oct. 1, to face off against the Slocomb Red Tops (2-3, 1-2) with fourth place in Class 3A, Region 2 up for grabs.

New Brockton is coming off a stunning come-from-behind win over Class 4A WS Neal last week, while Slocomb lost to undefeated Ariton 38-28. Slocomb also lost the previous week to Houston Academy 35-25.

Slocomb boasts one of the most talented rosters in the region as running backs Rashawn Miller Jr., Jaylen Nobles and Braylon Miller are all potential college players.

“Coach (Richard) Tisdale does a great job and has been doing a great job there for years,” New Brockton coach Zack Holmes said of Slocomb. “They have three of the best players in our region. Those guys are ball players, man.

“All three of them are really good players and they create ways to get them the ball and they’re also all over the field on defense. This game has some heavy playoff implication, so I know they’ll give us their best shot as always.”

New Brockton quarterback Kaden Cupp is likely still going to be out for this game with a leg injury that he’s recovering from, while backup quarterback Brayson Carr threw for more than 300 yards and three touchdowns last week. Receiver Tre Boland also earned more than 200 yards receiving in that game, and the Gamecocks will look to try and continue to make plays through the air this week.
