Both the Enterprise State Community College Boll Weevils baseball team and Lady Boll Weevils softball team played in doubleheader action last week.
While the Lady Boll Weevils saw their doubleheader with LaGrange College get rained out on Feb. 13, ESCC still picked up a pair of wins over NAIA school Thomas University’s junior varsity squad on Feb. 11.
ESCC picked up a 6-2 win in the first game and then a 5-4 win in eight innings in the second game.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning of game one, ESCC responded with one run in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead. ESCC scored two more runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh inning to secure the 6-2 win.
Haley Green led the Lady Boll Weevils at the plate going 2-of-3 with three RBIs, while Tori Burk went 2-of-4 with one RBI. Taylor Jordan, Katie Dennis, Chasilyn Sawyers and Kaitlynn Diaz each scored one run, while Brianna Haprer scored two runs.
Burk and Sawyers each had double plays on defense. Emery Mayne picked up the win in the circle pitching five and 1/3 innings with five strikeouts. She gave up just one hit and no runs.
In game two, the Lady Boll Weevils fell behind 1-0 in the first inning but bounced back to score two runs in the third inning and one in the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Thomas cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth inning and then tied things up 3-3 in the seventh inning.
As the game went into an extra inning, ESCC scored two runs in the top of the eighth and held Thomas to just one to hold on to the 5-4 win.
Emery Mayne, Jordan, Diaz and Lillian Reynolds each had one RBI.
Mayne picked up the win on the circle with one strikeout and one hit allowed in two innings pitched. Devyn Butorac gave up three hits and one run in three innings pitched.
The ESCC baseball squad traveled to Dothan to compete in Hits for Heroes and fell 9-4 to Chipola College before losing 12-3 to Wallace-Dothan.
Against Chipola, Delvan Gomez led ESCC at the plate going 2-of-3 with an RBI and a run, while Austin Thrasher went 2-of-3 with a stolen base, as well. John Michael Riley, Stratton Watt and Kyle Vogler each scored one run.
Dylan Register pitched four and 1/3 innings and struck out four batters, while also giving up four hits and four runs.
Vogler led ESCC against Wallace, going 2-of-4 at the plate, while Kolby Pickles, Taylor Gover and Thrasher each scored one run.
Vogler and Riley had one RBI each.
Jarrett Miller struck out one batter and gave up five hits with eight runs in two and 2/3 innings pitched, while Jade Sikes gave up no hits or runs with two strikeouts in two innings on the mound. Kobe Van Bogart struck out two batters and gave up five this with four runs in one and 1/3 innings.
