Two players from the Birmingham area are among the newest members of the Enterprise State Community College women’s basketball team who will begin school in August.

Amber Johnson, a Midfield High graduate, is a 6-foot-1-inch power forward whose ambition is to become a nurse.

“I chose ESCC because it’s small and it fits me,” Johnson said, adding  her smile, personality and height are part of what she will contribute to the Weevil Women’s team.

Tiarta Smith, a graduate of Pleasant Grove High School, is a shooting guard who averaged 16 points, eight assists and five rebounds per game throughout her high school career.

“I chose ESCC because it has a good work ethic and ESCC gave me the opportunity,” Smith said. “My dream is to be successful in life, and when I retire to know I worked hard to achieve my goals.”

Smith won the Most Improved Player Award and was named to the All-West All-Star team.

“My personality makes me unique,” Smith said. “I would like for people to know that I am gifted in athletics and academics.”

“Sports mean everything to me. I love the game of basketball and my biggest contributions to the ESCC team will be in leadership and scoring,” Smith said.

The 5-foot-4-inch Smith is undecided on her major course of study.
