According to Coffee County Emergency Management Agency Director Larry Walker, two houses in New Brockton and one house in Enterprise were struck by lightning Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 14.

There were also five homes that reported lightning strikes in Dothan, bringing the total for Houston and Coffee counties to eight.

"That's largest number of lightning strikes in a two county radius that we’ve ever heard of," Walker said.

The National Weather Service recorded 150 lightning strikes in our area during a five to 10 minute time frame just before 4 p.m.

No injuries were reported as a result of the lightning but one of the previously mentioned homes in New Brockton sustained some structural damage.

More information will be published when it is made available.
