The first few days of basketball practice for the Enterprise State Community College Weevil Women have not provided first-year coach Charles Medley and his staff any shocking news.

“Sometimes we don’t have much control over who can and can’t play, who will or won’t play,” Medley said. “We knew we didn't have but a few players returning when last season ended, but we didn't know that most of them would choose not to return."

Enterprise has two returning players, Jackie Grey and Debra Jackson.

“We’re practicing every day and we're practicing with the expectation of winning with a very young team," Medley, who is assisted by Jermaine Williams and Charles Cole, said. "Our fall schedule will give us a measuring stick so we'll know what we have when conference games begin in January.”

The Weevil Women open their season at home Nov. 15, against Shelton State.

Medley signed four players after the spring signing date: Amber Johnson, of Birmingham; Tre'Shay M. Patterson, of Marianna, Fla.; and Amber and Ashley Threat, of Geneva.

“We are pleased to have these four players join us,” Medley said. “They add size to our team and bring talent with them.”
