The Enterprise Wildcats basketball team hosted a team camp on June 25 with teams from all over the Wiregrass invading Wildcat Arena for all-day competition.

Joining Enterprise was New Brockton, Park Crossing, Houston County, Eufaula, Charles Henderson, Geneva County, Carroll, Providence Christian, Rehobeth, Luverne and Wicksburg.

“I thought it went really well for the most part,” Enterprise coach Rhett Harrelson said. “I felt like everything ran smoothly and I’m pretty good buddies with most of the coaches of the teams that were here.

“It was good to be able to catch up with the coaches and see how they are doing and how their teams are doing. I felt like we played hard and I was really pleased with our effort and how we’re improving as a team and trying to figure each other after a successful year (last year).”

The Wildcats also welcomed a few new faces this summer as former Daleville all-state senior point guard Tomar Hobdy and 6-foot-3-inch senior wing Kenneth Mitchell – from Hawaii – have transferred into the program.

“I haven’t seen (Hobdy) play enough, he hasn’t been with us very long, but from what he’s shown he’s a great kid and I think he’ll be just fine here,” Harrelson said. “(Mitchell) can shoot it well and handles the ball well and is very unselfish. He’s another great kid.

“We have some new faces this year and I think this summer was really big for us in terms of getting familiar with each other and trying to figure out how we need to play next year.”

The Wildcats had a busy June competing in team camps at Auburn, Alabama State and Troy before hosting their own camp last week.

“We did a lot of really good things and some really bad things, too,” Harrelson said. “I can’t tell you our record because it’s not about record. It’s about finding guys that can come into the game and make an impact and find some consistency in some guys and figuring out who are eight, nine, 10 and 11 guys coming off the bench that can come in and make an impact.

“We had a really good June. I’m going into year five and in terms of where we are right now I feel like this was our best summer we’ve ever had. We’re leaps and bounds ahead of where we were (at this point) with other teams in the past. I’m really proud of this group and am excited for the season.”
