Enterprise Lady Cats senior catcher Emma Faulk on Nov. 10 signed her letter-of-intent to continue her softball career at the Auburn University -Montgomery.
Faulk is the first EHS senior to sign with a college during the 2021-2022 school year and it came from the culmination of the work she put in during her softball career.
“It was really crazy,” Faulk said of finally signing with a school. “You think about signing a lot when you’re little until now. I’ve been working towards this forever.”
Enterprise softball coach Kate (Benton) Stump, who also played college softball at Troy, said she and her staff couldn’t be more proud of Faulk.
“She’s been working towards this goal since she was four years old,” Stump said. “So, I can only imagine the feelings she’s going through right now.
“I couldn’t be any more proud of you and the coaching staff could not be more proud of you. You have a very, very bright future ahead of you and all your hard work has obviously paid off. We’re so excited to see the things you continue to do at AUM. You still have one more season (here) but even after that, once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat.”
Faulk held a .986 fielding percentage as a junior last season and also earned 30 RBIs and six home runs with a .367 on-base percentage at the plate, while scoring 18 runs. Faulk said that the coaching staff and atmosphere at AUM helped lead her decision to sign there.
“It’s very homey there,” Faulk said. “I feel really good up there. I love the coaches and the girls and the program in general. I’m really excited about being up there. AUM is really competitive and I wanted to compete.”
Faulk said that her goals for AUM are just to be a good player but she’s excited about her senior season at EHS, too.
“I just want to be a good leader for the younger girls and do what I can to help the program succeed,” Faulk said.
Faulk pointed to her coaches and teammates that helped her become a leader for the Lady Cats.
“My coaches and teammates helped me a lot to be a leader and with my mentality,” Faulk said. “They helped me overcome a lot of things. I started at the bottom and now I’m here, so they helped me a lot.”
