After two years of planning, and almost six months of construction the newest addition to the Enterprise Recreational Complex is ready to open — just in time for summer.
The Enterprise Rotary Club and the city of Enterprise hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday signaling the opening of the Splash Pad at the park, located on Highway 167 North.
The Splash Pad has been a highly anticipated addition to the Rotary Playground.
With the area known for its hot, steamy summers, Enterprise Rotarian Christen Moore asked the club to install an addition to the park that would help children and adults cool off while enjoying all that the park has to offer.
"They're almost like miniature water parks. It gets so hot here in the summer time, and if you take your kids out, you need gallons of water," Moore said in a prior interview with The Southeast Sun. "I thought that our local community could use more activities that the family could do together that wasn't expensive. It's also something that is handicap accessible, which is really important. Someone who is in a wheelchair can go out there and get wet in the summer time."
The city of Enterprise partnered with Enterprise Rotarians to install the splash pad in the Enterprise Recreational Complex. The approximately $115,000 splash pad was funded by a $50,000 grant by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, $50,000 by the Enterprise Rotary Club and $15,000 by the city.
Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell said improving the quality of life for the citizens of Enterprise is the main goal of installing the splash pad.
“When you have young families with young children, providing the luxuries of entertainment can be difficult,” Boswell said. “Providing family-friendly entertainment for children means the world to us.”
Boswell said he would like to express his gratitude to the Enterprise Rotary Club for making the project a reality.
The splash pad will share the same hours of operation as the park and will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from April through September.
