Enterprise High School auto mechanics instructor Steve Icenogle was named Secondary Teacher of the Year and Pinedale Elementary teacher Hali Quincey was named Elementary Teacher of the Year.

“These two individuals measure up in every way with what a quality teacher should look like,” Enterprise Superintendent Greg Faught said. “They are both outstanding individuals, and I’m very proud of them.”

The school board also played a special video presentation presenting each school’s teacher and support person of the year.

Enterprise Career and Technology Center Principal Cami McClenny also spoke to the board in recognition of February being Career Tech Month.

“Among high school graduates entering the workforce, statistics show those with technical based backgrounds, like the hands on experiences in career tech, often earn more (money) throughout their lifetimes,” McClenny said. “Today’s high school students taking advanced career tech courses in high school or college are projected to earn 3.2 percent more in salary than their peers that have not take these types of courses.

“We are very blessed in Enterprise, we currently have 14 different career technical education programs that we provide our students. We also provide them several opportunities to get hands on training through our cooperative education program, health science internships and educational training internships.”

The Sun is currently running a weekly spotlight on career tech programs at EHS every week.

In other business, the school board also approved the purchase of a new Type C special needs bus after an accident last year – with no injuries – resulted in a bus being totaled. Faught said that the bus was scheduled to be replaced next year anyway. The new bus will cost $99,262.89.

The board also approved the adoption of a textbook committee, which will review and accept textbooks for the school system. Representatives from each school will be on the committee.
