On Jan. 27 Coffee County Superintendent Kevin Killingsworth released a statement revealing that the school system had 24 new COVID-19 cases over the previous week.

That is an increase from the previous week’s 16 new cases. Zion Chapel had 11 student cases and one faculty case, while New Brockton Elementary had one student case and New Brockton High School had six student cases. Kinston School also had two student cases and three faculty cases.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases this school year for Coffee County Schools sits a 159 with even more quarantines.

“We are working together with our educational partners in Coffee County and Coffee County EMA to develop a plan for our employees to receive the COVID-19 vaccination when it is made available to us,” Killingsworth said. “The plan is a work in progress and no timetable has been given as to when the district will be receiving the vaccinations.

“When that time comes, we will have a plan of action in order for our employees that wish to be vaccinated. All of this is contingent upon the (Alabama Department of Public Health) approving our plan. Other school systems around the state have already receive their vaccinations so hopefully our valued employees will not have to wait much longer.”

Enterprise City Schools Superintendent confirmed to The Sun on Feb. 2 that ECS saw 16 new confirmed student cases and seven new employee cases over the past week.

According to the ADPH’s COVID-19 School Dashboard, which updates every Friday, Elba City Schools had less than five new cases, Daleville City Schools had eight new cases, Ozark City Schools had 17 new cases, Dothan City Schools 18 new cases and Dale County Schools had nine new cases. The ADPH’s dashboard does not separate student and employee cases. That dashboard can be found at https://tinyurl.com/y364n2qo.
