The Enterprise Police Department was involved in an early morning shooting at the Dogwood Acres trailer park just before 4 a.m., Feb. 16.

According to Public Information Officer Sgt. Billy Haglund, the incident occurred when officers were responding to a domestic violence call in the 200 block of Dale County Road 124.

When the officers approached the front door of the trailer, the front door swung open and a suspect had a handgun pointed at the officers.

Haglund said the officers opened fire, shooting the suspect twice in the hip area.

The suspect was transported to Medical Center Enterprise and later transported to Flowers Hospital to undergo surgery. The suspect is expected to recover from his injuries.

Haglund said the officers involved in the shooting are OK.

One officer received a minor laceration to his elbow during the incident. He was treated and released from Medical Center Enterprise.

Enterprise Police Chief T.D. Jones said the Alabama Bureau of Investigation will be handling the investigation, a standard procedure for officer involved shootings.

Both officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The identity of the suspect is not being released at this time.
