A 22-year-old Daleville man pleaded guilty Nov. 13 in the deadly shooting of his stepmother.
According to Dale and Geneva counties District Attorney Kirke Adams, Thomas Michael Pressley pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 30 years in a state prison.
In a shooting which happened April 26, authorities said Pressley shot his stepmother Loretta Leia Pressley, 45, in the head while she was in bed, before shooting himself and fleeing to a neighbor’s residence.
When police arrived on the scene they found Pressley with a gunshot wound to the neck, which exited out of the back of his head. He lost his eye and damaged his sinus cavity.
After being transported to several medical centers, Pressley was later hospitalized at University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital where he received treatment for a month before going to jail on murder charges.
Adams said Pressley never gave a motive for the shooting. Pressley only mentioned that he and his stepmother did not get along.
