A former Enterprise Police Department officer was arrested Nov. 3 on several drug-related charges and impersonating an officer in Columbus, Ga.

According to an article in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, Dennis Reid, 33, of Enterprise, worked for the EPD about two months ago before he left for his alleged involvement in narcotics and theft.

Enterprise Police Chief T.D. Jones said Reid was not fired, but had resigned from his position and the EPD currently doesn't have any warrants for his arrest.

The Enterprise Human Resources Department said Reid was employed with the city as a police officer from August 2005 until August 2013 before resigning.

According to the Ledger-Enquirer article, Reid was arrested along with two other individuals, Shanna Kirkland, 28, of Enterprise, and Michael Jolley, 31, of Enterprise, at a gas station at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday morning.

Reid faces charges of false information, impersonating an officer, loitering, possession of marijuana and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

An officer approached Reid and Kirkland who were sitting in a vehicle outside the gas station after business hours near Macon and Reese road.

Reid allegedly claimed to work for the Enterprise Police Department, but when asked to provide identification, he could not produce it.

Reid also allegedly claimed to previously work for the Coffee County Sheriff's Office.

According to the article, the officer said he contacted the departments and found Reid did previously work for the EPD, but left two months ago as a result of him being under investigation for narcotics use and theft.

The officer asked to search the vehicle, which Reid denied saying the car wasn't his.

However, after spotting alleged drug paraphernalia through the window, officers had probable cause to search the vehicle.

During the search, officers found a digital scale, 2.5 grams of methamphetamine, several bags for repackaging, several used and unused syringes and 2 grams of marijuana divided among three bags.

The third suspect Jolley then arrived on the scene.

The officer said he was getting a different story from Jolley, and was taken into temporary for giving false information.

According to the article, the officer said Jolley was not going to be given drug-related charges, however, while on scene, Jolley learned Reid was going to be taken to jail for the contraband found inside the car and insisted the officer arrest him instead, saying Reid had a family to take care of, and claiming the drugs were his.

Reid's bond was set at $16,000, plus a $250 fine for false information. Jolley received the same fine in addition to a $6,000 bond, which was the same amount set for Kirkland.

Reid and Jolley were bonded out Nov. 4, and Kirkland remains in custody of the Muscogee County Jail.
