Twenty-eight students from Windham Elementary School were recently recognized for their leadership skills based on the school's seven habits philosophy.

WES follows the leadership philosophy of the Leader in Me program, which is based off Sean Covey's book "The Seven Habits of Happy Kids."

According to the Leader in Me website, the seven habits are Be Proactive; Begin with the End in Mind; Put First Things First; Think Win-Win; Seek First to Understand, then to Be Understood; Synergize; and, Sharpen the Saw.

These habits challenge WES students to take initiative, set goals and plan ahead, focus on the most important tasks, consider others opinions and emotions, work with others and take care of their own self both mentally and physically.

Each month, teachers choose who has best followed the seven habits and shown great leadership.

This month, the pre-kindergarten through second grade leaders are Edwin Lajara Arzola, Vinicio Tiul Choc, Franky Domingo, Alyssa Edgette, Trinity Gibson, Derrick Howard, Alleice McCray, Madelyn Norris, Keavon Occius, Alyssa Ray, Ulivia Scott, Lucy Shallenberger, Joye Thacker and Savannah Woodham.

The third through sixth grade leaders are Bill Acedilla, LaTerria Adams, KeMecia Bryant, Tessa Chamniss, Marissa Curry, Kristopher Doss, Norasiah Engram, Aubrey Hammerlink, Lily Leddon, Arieana Mathews, Nitere Ortiz, Ma’ryah Rich, Kaliyah White and Shara Wilkinson.
