With less than a week of practices under their belt with new head coach Taylor Hatcher, the Daleville Warhawks (0-1) opened up on the road against the Kinston Bulldogs and fell 20-3 in a rough start to the 2020 baseball season.
Things got off to a rocky start for Daleville as Kinston earned two runs in the first inning, four in the second inning and five in the third, while Daleville couldn’t get on the scoreboard falling behind 11-0 early.
Finally, in the top of the fourth inning Daleville got going when Jordan McDonald drilled a line drive double into left field to drive home Cameron Enfinger to get the Warhawks on the scoreboard.
An error led to two more Warhawk runs in the inning.
Kinston dominated the bottom half of the inning, however, scoring nine runs to take a 20-3 advantage. The game came to a close in the fifth after Daleville was unable to score any runs in the top of the inning.
Senior Casey Moore led the way for Daleville at the plate, going 3-of-3, while McDonald had an RBI and a run.
Blake Moore pitched one and 1/3 inning and struck out one batter, while giving up six runs. McDonald pitched two innings and struck out one batter, while giving up seven hits and 13 runs.
