Meals in Level Plains and Daleville during school shutdown outlined

Breakfasts and lunches are available in Daleville and Level Plains for families with children between the ages of one and 18 during the state-mandated school system shutdown.

The free meals for families with children under the age 18 begins Monday, March 23, according to Daleville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Lisa Stamps.

Stamps said that the feeding program is March 23, March 25 and March 27 and will be closed during the week of Spring Break which is March 30 through April 3.

“Our school closure feeding program will be a drive through service,” Stamps said. “Parents may drive through the pick up locations with students in the car.

“All people must remain in the car at all times,” Stamps said. “A breakfast and lunch bag will be handed through the window for each child in the car.”

Per United States Department of Agriculture regulations, children must be present in order for the meals to be provided. The program is solely for the pick up of meals and meals will not be consumed on site.

No application or proof of income is needed.

The meal pickup is between 11 a.m. and noon at Daleville High School, Providence Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Level Plains on March 23, 25 and 27.

As the first cases of the COVID-19 strain of coronavirus in Alabama were confirmed, Gov. Kay Ivey declared a State of Emergency at a press conference in Montgomery March 13 and announced the closure of all schools K-12 in the state starting at the end of Wednesday, March 18. Schools could re-open on April 6, she said.
