Windham Elementary School celebrated Valentine’s Day with parties all throughout the day on Feb. 14.
Leading up to the big day, students could purchase “Cupid’s Cocoa Valentine’s Day bags,” which were delivered on Feb. 13 and 14.
For the students, the parties started as early as 9:45 a.m. on Valentine’s Day and ended as late as 2 p.m. with each grade having a designated block to celebrate the holiday.
Students munched on candy, cupcakes, pizza, chips, etc., as they had valentines delivered to their bags at their desks. Some classes watched movies during the parties as well.
Parents did not skip out on the fun either as they visited and brought flowers, food, visited with their students and just became a part of the organized chaos that all the sugar brought.
Third grade teacher Amanda Holmes said the little parties like this that the school holds are important for the students.
“It gives them a chance to be kids—laugh, celebrate and have fun with their friends,” Holmes said.
Brittany Jones, who also teaches third grade, said that days like this give everybody an opportunity to get to know each other a bit better.
“It gives us a chance to relax and get to know each other and hang out on a different level,” Jones said. “I think it’s good for their self esteem and let’s them cut loose a little bit. (They) get to know their friends a little better and talk to people they might not normally talk to.”
