A pair of late free throws from junior Tomar Hobdy helped lift the Daleville Warhawks (5-13, 3-2) over the Houston Academy Raiders to earn a big Class 3A, Area 3 win on Jan. 25.
With under 30 seconds remaining, Hobdy knocked down the two free throws to secure Daleville’s 66-63 win.
The two sides battled one another tight for the whole game with Houston Academy taking a 19-17 lead into the second quarter. Both sides scored 17 in the second quarter but the Raiders held on to a 36-34 lead at halftime.
Daleville outscored Houston Academy 14-13 in the third quarter to cut the Raider lead to 49-48 heading into the final period. Daleville won the fourth quarter 18-14 to earn the 66-63 win. In total, the Warhawks outscored Houston Academy 32-27 in the second half.
Junior Bryan Beckwith led the Warhawks with 17 points in the win, while Hobdy had 16 points and senior Cam Giles chipped in with 12 points. Senior Sincere McKenzie also had eight points.
Houston Academy’s Kadyn Mitchell led all scorers with 21 points.
For the third time this season the Lady Hawks are in quarantine due to COVID-19. Head coach Zach Kelley said that he hopes the team will be able to play against Providence Christian on Jan. 30 and will then continue area play next week.
