The Daleville Lady Hawks (0-4) got the 2020 softball season underway last week with a road matchup and an appearance in Slocomb’s Mason Walding Tournament.
Daleville started the season off with an 18-3 loss to Carroll in Ozark on Feb. 27.
The Lady Hawks had a rough first inning of the season as Carroll scored 13 runs to take complete control of the game right off the bat.
The Lady Hawks held Carroll to just five runs in the next three innings but could manage just three runs of their own.
Katie Harry led Daleville at the plate going 2-of-2 with a run, while Alissa Harris went 1-of-1 at the plate. Teconna White and Kinley Sykes scored one run each.
Harris pitched four innings.
In the opening round of the Mason Walding Tournament on Feb. 28, Daleville fell to Zion Chapel 11-1.
Harris allowed six hits and five runs from the circle. Harris also had a single at the plate, while Harry was walked twice and Alana Gordon walked and scored Daleville’s only run of the game.
In game two, the Lady Hawks lost 17-0 to Ariton with six errors in the loss. Harris struck out two batters from the circle and allowed six earned runs.
White earned the lone hit of the day for Daleville.
Daleville had its best game of the tournament in game three in a 9-3 loss to Slocomb. Harris again led the way in the circle allowing just four hits and five runs on the day.
She also went 2-for-2 at the plate with a run. Harry, Lashundra Straw, White, Gordon and Nevaeh Pettway each had one hit with Pettway and Sykes scoring one run each.
The Lady Hawks will host their first home game on March 10 against Geneva County.
