The Daleville Lady Hawks (1-16) put a mark in the win column for the first time this season on Tuesday, April 23, with an exciting 11-8 win over Pike County on the road.
The win snaps a 19-game losing streak that dates all the way back to April of 2018 and gives Daleville some much-needed confidence heading into the post season.
Daleville jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when catcher Jamie Peters drove in Alyssa Straw for a run on a fly ball.
Then, the Lady Hawks faced something they have all season as Pike County exploded to score five runs in the second inning to take a 5-1 lead, but instead of allowing things to spiral from there, Daleville rallied instead.
Peters managed to steal home in the top of the third inning followed by Kinley Sykes scoring on a line-drive single from Nevaeh Pettway to cut the Pike County lead to 5-3.
In the bottom of the third Pike County scored another run to extend its lead to 6-3, but the Lady Hawks went right back to work in the fourth inning.
Straw drove in Haley Jones with an RBI single and then Peters blasted an inside-the-park homerun into left field driving home both Teconna White and Straw to give the Lady Hawks a 7-6 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning Pike County tied things up 7-7 and both teams went scoreless in the fifth inning.
In the top of the sixth inning Peters drove in Joycelyn Tinker on an RBI single to give Daleville a 8-7 lead, followed by Sykes driving Straw home on an RBI double into center field.
Krishauna Jackson then drove Sykes in for another run on a grounder to extend the Lady Hawk lead to 10-7.
Finally, White drove in Jones with an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to make the score 11-7. Pike County managed a final run in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t get any closer than that.
The Lady Hawks had one of their best days at the plate in the win with 12 hits. White led the way going 3-for-3 with a run.
Peters went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, a homerun and two runs, while Sykes went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Peters was also walked once.
Straw, Jackson, Pettway and Jones each had one hit. Straw was also walked twice.
Sykes and Jones scored two runs each and Tinker scored one run.
Alyssa Harris pitched all seven innings and struck out three batters while also giving up eight runs on just four hits.
