It was a day to celebrate as the news spread through the faculty, staff, and school about Windham Elementary School raising their score from an “F” to a “C” on the Alabama Report Card. The 19 point increase was a significant upgrade from the previous year.

Daleville High School also had an increase from 72 to 77. The system as a whole came up from a “D” in year 2017-18 to a “C” in 2018-19 from 68 to 79, an 11 point increase, which was another huge upgrade.

Dr. Lisa Stamps, Daleville City Schools superintendent, is very pleased that the system is on the upward movement toward student success. She challenged the staff at institute to think big and expect big results as she stated, “We are the Warhawks, We will Rise!” She is working with faculty and administration to set goals and put strategies in place to cultivate a culture of sound instruction and learning.

“We are so happy that our schools are increasingly improving achievement and growth as well as graduation rate. Our students will benefit from these advances. We still have some improvements to make regarding college and career readiness scores but we are moving in the right direction. It is my understanding our staff worked very hard last year to increase their scores, and it shows. They are to be highly commended for their diligence,” Stamps said.

“We are continuing that progress by putting in place proven response to instruction procedures. We are focusing on analyzing data regularly, adjusting instruction as needed, monitoring student progress, implementing intervention plans, engaging students in lessons, and helping students take ownership of their own learning,” Stamps said.

“While it is important, we are not just thinking about a report card score but are thinking about how we can benefit our students’ futures, the jobs they will have and the quality of life they will have. We want to expose them to classes in which they find strengths and interests. We want to build programs that will offer opportunities for our students to have a strong foundation at the early grades and innovative activities at the upper grades.”

“Our folks are hard workers, determined to succeed, and are all pulling in the same direction, which in my mind is a recipe for victory. Our students are great. They are worth all our time and effort. They deserve the best we can give. I see so much potential and promise in the future. I am anticipating raising that score again and am looking forward to seeing the progress we make next year,” Stamps said.
