New Brockton announces graduation plans

On May 11, New Brockton High School revealed plans for its 2020 Graduation Ceremony to be held at Gamecock Stadium on May 19.

After initially announcing plans to hold a non-traditional graduation that would see seniors walk one-by-one to the stage with no more than seven guests, Coffee County Schools switched gears and announced that, instead, there would be two graduation ceremonies on May 19 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and there would be no limit on guest capacity.

Students that are set to graduate at 10 a.m. must arrive at 8:30 a.m. for a run-through in the gym. Students that are set to graduate at 2 p.m. should arrive at 12:30 p.m. for the run-through.

After students report to the gym upon arrival they will be escorted to Gamecock Stadium and will be dismissed back to the gym after graduation.

Any student that wants to attend the other graduation session can do so but must not do so in a cap and gown.

Students will be arranged in alphabetical order following the valedictorian and salutatorian.

Family groups will be allowed to sit together but must sit six-feet apart from other families in the stadium.

Also, all class fees, club fees and textbook fees must be paid and all cheerleading and sports uniforms turned in before graduation.

The boy’s dress code is black pants, white button-down shirt, black shoes and a black tie. Bow ties are not allowed. The girl’s dress code is black dress – that adheres to the school dress code – and black shoes. Decorations will not be allowed on caps or gowns.

The valedictorian and salutatorian speeches and prayer will be read at both ceremonies.

The ceremony will also be streamed live on Facebook and a professional videographer will be filming the ceremony for seniors, as well.

“It’s one of the most special things you will always remember,” Coffee County Schools Superintendent Kevin Killingsworth said of graduation. “So, it’s very important that we do something special for our seniors. It’s one of the most important times of your life; to honor all of the hard work and dedication through your 13 years of school.”
