Evelyn Holmes-Smith and the EHS wrestling team hosted the inaugural Boll Weevil Duals last weekend.

The Enterprise High School wrestling team hosted its inaugural Boll Weevil Duals alongside a number of teams from around the state with EHS finishing runner-up in the duals.

Joining Enterprise was Beauregard, Charles Henderson, Gulf Shores, Houston Academy and TR Miller. In the end, Gulf Shores came away as Boll Weevil Duals Champions, while Enterprise ended runner-up, Beauregard finished in third place, TR Miller came in fourth place, Houston Academy came in fifth place and Charles Henderson ended in sixth place.

Enterprise defeated TR Miller 66-15 in the first round. Code Kirk (140 pounds), Kody Sigmon (154 pounds), Tony Jasso (197 pounds), Kameron Stiffler (115 pounds), Zach McFarland (128 pounds) and Ryan Burke (134 pounds) each won by pinfall against TR Miller. Braden MacGregor (147 pounds), Samuel Lynon (162 pounds), Xavier Jump (172 pounds), Paxton Hanshaw (108 pounds) and Evelyn Holmes-Smith (122 pounds) each won by forfeit.

The Wildcats knocked off Charles Henderson 63-6 in the second round. Hanshaw, Stiffler, McFarland, Grier Hunt (128 pounds), Konner Galvez (134 pounds), Kirk, MacGregor and Sigmon each won by forfeit. Lynon won an 8-4 decision over Charles Henderson’s Jackson West, while Jump beat Seth Scott by pinfall and Jasso beat Hunter Freeman by pinfall.

In the quarterfinals, Enterprise narrowly defeated Beauregard 37-36. Stiffler won a 9-1 major decision and Holmes-Smith won a 6-0 decision, while Hunt, Kirk, Sigmon and Jasso each won by pinfall. MacGregor also won by forfeit.

The Wildcats blasted Houston Academy 54-12 in the semifinals. Kennedy Mitchell (162 pounds), Jump, Keith Warren (184 pounds), McFarland, Galvez and Kirk all won by forfeit. Hanshaw, Evan Nelson (115 pounds) and Lynon each captured pinfal wins.

In the championship round, Enterprise fell 54-22 to Gulf Shores. Gulf Shores ended the tournament with a 5-0 record compared to Enterprise’s 4-1 record. In fact, Enterprise was the only team to score a pinfall on Gulf Shores during the entire tournament.

Stiffler won by pinfall, McFarland wearned a 10-0 major decision, Hunt won by pinfall, Kirk won a 7-2 decision and Sigmon won a 1-0 decision.
