ESCC falls to Shelton State at home

The Enterprise State Boll Weevils and Lady Boll Weevils hosted Shelton State Community College and both fell in their home games.

The Boll Weevils dropped a nail-biter to the Bucs 73-69. ESCC trailed 37-32 at halftime but came storming back in the second half to outscore Shelton State 37-36. The comeback was unfortunately not enough as late free throws helped Shelton State hold on to the four-point win.

Abbeville native Jaquan Kinsey led ESCC with 20 points and 10 rebounds in the loss, while Montgomery’s Jalen Gaston added 14 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Patrick Littlejohn came off the bench to score 13 points and Brydon Whitaker scored eight points.

The Lady Weevils struggled to contain one of the top women’s JUCO programs in the country as the Lady Bucs won 117-58. Shelton State jumped out to a 33-8 lead in the first quarter and continued to pour it on to take a 69-19 lead into halftime. ESCC managed to keep things closer in the second half but the lead was insurmountable. ESCC was outrebounded 59-22 in the loss.

Erin Johnson led ESCC with 17 points, while Zyisha Carson added 14 points. Jesslyn Culverhouse scored six points and grabbed five rebounds.

The Boll Weevils travel to Gordon State on Dec. 14 but returns home to face off against Chipola College on Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. The Lady Boll Weevils will close out the 2021 portion of their schedule on the road on Dec. 9 against Faulkner University JV.
