The Enterprise State Community College Boll Weevils (5-3) finally got a chance to host a game on Wednesday, Feb. 26, and freshman Austin Thrasher put on a show with a pair of home runs to help ESCC defeat Andrew College 8-7.

After falling behind 2-1 in the second inning, Thrasher demolished a fast ball with a four-run grand slam homer into center field in the bottom of the third inning to put ESCC ahead 5-2.

Thrasher wasn’t done, however, and hit a two-run homer in the bottom of fourth inning. ESCC scored one more run in the inning to stretch the lead out to 8-2.

Andrew College rallied with five runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the ESCC lead to 8-7.

ESCC held Andrew College scoreless for the remaining three innings, however, and held on to the win.

Thrasher went 2-of-3 at the plate with two home runs, six RBIs and two runs. Jon Lewis also went 2-of-3 with an RBI, while Kyle Vogler went 2-of-5 with an RBI and a run.

Enterprise native Connor Purvis went 1-of-4 at the plate but also scored two runs.

On the defensive side, Drew Powell earned two double plays, while Dylan Register and Thrasher had one each.

Taylor Gover picked up the win on the mound and struck out eight batters, while giving up eight hits and five runs in his 5 1/3 innings pitched. Alex Friesen picked up the save with two strikeouts and no hits or runs in two innings on the mound.
