One person was severely injured after a two-vehicle accident on Highway 167 Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred at about 10 a.m., one mile north of the Coffee County Health Department, and involved a dump truck and a red Buick sedan.

According to eyewitnesses, prior to the accident there was a small traffic delay on Alabama Highway 167 North after a car in the northbound lane tried to turn around.

According to Enterprise police, the dump truck attempted to go around a stopped vehicle in the roadway and struck the passenger car in the southbound lane head on.

The truck and sedan landed in the ditch in the southbound lane. The truck was overturned and the sedan had extensive damage.

The driver of the Buick was transported by ambulance to Southeast Alabama Medical Center in serious condition.

The driver of the dump truck had minor injuries. Neither victim had any passengers in their vehicles.

Motorists going northbound on Highway 167 were redirected onto Salem Road, while motorists going southbound were asked to turn around as first responders cleared the scene.

Responding to the accident were the Enterprise Police Department, Enterprise Fire Department, Enterprise Rescue, Inc. and Alabama State Troopers.

The traffic accident is being investigated by the Enterprise Police Department with assistance from the Alabama State Troopers.
