The Enterprise Chamber of Commerce recognized the actions of two young Enterprise residents Nov. 13 for their heroic actions after a motor vehicle accident on Highway 167 North.

Caleb and Conner Richey were home from college on Aug. 15 when they heard a bad accident happen in front of their home.

Three vehicles were involved and there were multiple injuries.

Tapping into the skills they learned as Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts, the two ran from their home with first aid kits in hand to help those injured in the accident.

As they helped one man who was seriously injured by putting on a tourniquet, they didn't realize their father, Tim Richey, was in the other vehicle that was turned on its side in the roadway.

The bottom of the vehicle was facing the other victim they were assisting.

The accident occurred when their father was making a left turn into their driveway when he was rear-ended and pushed into oncoming traffic.

The man who hit Richey's vehicle from the southbound lane was flown via Flatiron to the hospital for treatment, and is still recovering from his injuries.

Tim Richey was also badly injured and taken by ambulance to Medical Center Enterprise for treatment.

The Richey family said they have gone to visit the seriously injured man in the hospital who has had multiple surgeries following the accident.

In recognition of their efforts that day and quick response, Caleb and Conner were presented the Ray of Hope award from the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber President Lisa Fenner said the Enterprise community is lucky to have two young men such as Caleb and Conner as residents.

Fenner also recognized their parents Tim and Denine Richey for raising such well-rounded young men who were prepared to handle the emergency.

Fenner also recognized the boys' Scout leaders and Conner's Air Force Reserve commanders for their influence in their lives.

Many of the boys' family members, chamber members, Scout and military members were present for the presentation of the award.
