One of two children injured in a wreck on Alabama Highway 27 died Nov. 4.

According to Alabama State Troopers, Caiden Hughes, 7, of Lizella, Ga., passed away at Children's Hospital of Birmingham at approximately 5:35 p.m.

The two-vehicle accident occurred at 11:15 p.m., Nov. 2, eight miles north of Ozark at the 40.1-mile marker.

Timothy Stafford, 53, of Abbeville, was killed when the 2002 Ford Ranger he was driving collided head-on with a 1998 Toyota Camry.

Alabama State Troopers said Stafford was not wearing a seat belt, and preliminary investigation indicates alcohol may have been a factor.

The other driver, Alana Wuolukka, 26, of Lizella, Ga., was also killed in the collision. Passengers in Wuolukka’s vehicle were David Poole, age unknown at this time, Destiny Hughes, 5, and Caiden, all of Lizella, Ga.

Both Poole and Destiny were taken to Southeast Alabama Medical Center with serious injuries.

Caiden was taken to Flowers Hospital before being transported to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham for life-threatening injuries.

No further information is available at this time as the Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate the accident.
