Daleville police recovered 12 rocks of crack cocaine from a suspect after being led on a chase through parts of Dale County Sunday, Nov. 25.
According to Sgt. Stacey Austin, Public Safety Officer Noah Suiter was running a stationary radar on Highway 84 at approximately 3:15 a.m. when a vehicle was clocked going above posted speed limit.
When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to stop.
The suspect, continuing westbound on Highway 84, turned south on County Road 109 and ran through the intersection of County Roads 109 and 24.
“He slid through the intersection (and) got out on foot,” Austin said. “Officer Suiter ran him down, placed him in handcuffs and recovered 12 crack rocks off of him.”
The driver, identified as David Jerome Key, 34, of Daleville, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and attempting to elude a police officer.
The vehicle has been impounded and the suspect remains at the Dale County Jail under a $2,500 bond.
“Officer Suiter pursuing the vehicle, staying with the (suspect) through the foot chase and recovering the crack is a good find,” Austin said. “When you get 12 crack rocks off the street all at one time that’s 12 sales that did not happen. It’s good for the fight against narcotics in the city of Daleville.”
