A suspect is in custody after using a knife to rob Center Drugs on Highway 84 in Daleville May 16.
According to the Daleville Department of Public Safety, John Ross Spears, 28, of Daleville, entered the store around 2:45 p.m., and went behind the pharmacy counter wielding a knife.
The suspect demanded a pharmacist give him prescription drugs and syringes.
After receiving the items, the suspect allegedly left the store and climbed into an unidentified vehicle.
As officers arrived on the scene, witnesses say the saw the suspect flee and one witness continued to follow him.
Daleville Chief Investigator Lt. Kenny Jackson said Spears led the officers on a chase on Highway 85 that ended in the suspect wrecking his car in a residential area off of Snell Bridge Road.
Investigators said Spears got out of the car and ran from the scene, but officers were able to apprehend him.
Spears is being held in the Dale County Jail on no bond with first-degree robbery and attempting to elude a police officer charges.
According to Jackson, Spears is also on probation for grand theft in Florida, and will have to face charges there.
Jackson said one person was injured in the robbery. An employee, who was trying to escape, ran out the door and fell.
The employee was taken to Flowers Hospital in Dothan and Jackson said she appears to be OK.
According to Jackson, the suspect may have more charges pending.
