The new Coffee County Commission was sworn in during a regular meeting, Nov. 14.
Led by Probate Judge Steve Blair, new commissioners Josh Carnley, District 3; Kevin Mitchell, District 2; and Jimmy Jones, District 5, were sworn in to office along with returning commissioners Dean Smith, Al Britt, Kim Ellis and Tom Grimsley.
Grimsley was also appointed to serve as commission chairman.
In other news, the commission approved the proposed plans for the construction the Ridgeway subdivision at the request of County Engineer Randy Tindell.
Tindell said the subdivision would be located on Coffee County Road 539, which is also known as Moates Road.
The commissioners also approved a resolution authorizing the county’s engineering department to enter into an agreement with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) for the purpose of cleaning up an illegal trash dump on Coffee County Road 501.
Tindell said the dump was comprised mostly of used shingles and other construction materials and added that the agreement with ADEM will allow the county to be reimbursed for the cost of the cleanup.
Coffee County Solid Waste Enforcement Officer Dean Blair will be investigating the illegal dump, which is within feet of a no dumping sign.
The commission also agreed to continue holding its meetings at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month.
Work sessions for the commission will also keep the same time, taking place place at 5 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month.
The Coffee County Commission will meet again at 9 a.m., Nov. 26, in the community room at the Coffee County Office Complex.
