During a press conference held on Tuesday, April 19, Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell and Police Chief T. D. Jones addressed questions regarding an unprecedented string of shootings.
Jones said police "have no information right now" that the shootings are related or are associated with gang activity.
There have been two deaths following shootings in March and April. One victim was shot on Private Road 1508 on March 11, and another was shot at Boulevard Apartments on April 11.
"We've had very little information come in on that murder," Jones
Since the April 11 shooting, police have responded to "several shots-fired calls," Jones said.
Another shooting occurred during a party on Baxter Street about 1:45 a.m. on April 16.
Jones said the party "appeared to be fueled by social media." The party began on Damascus Road, Jones said. It then moved to various locations around the city before ending at Baxter Street, he said.
Jones said social media was not a factor in other shootings.
"When they got to Baxter Street, they were in a field up there in a vacant house," Jones said. "(There were) probably 60 or 70 individuals in that area. We received no calls from people that lived in the neighborhood."
Jones said an altercation occurred between some individuals ending in gunfire. Four individuals received non-life threatening injuries, according to Jones.
"We have very little information on that," Jones said. "You have 60 people in a field, and people open fire on each other. Someone out there has information on this."
If anyone has any information regarding any shooting, contact the Enterprise Police Department at (334) 347-2222 or leave an anonymous tip at www.enterprisepd.com
"We do know they were out partying and drinking," Jones said, stating the party members were young. "We'd ask that the parents keep vigilant with their children and know where they're at. I always told my kids, 'anything after midnight, you're asking for trouble.'"
Jones said the victims of this shooting were from Ozark.
The most recent shooting occurred at Larry's Real Pit BBQ on April 18, where three to six shots were fired, according Jones. Witnesses did not tell police there was exchange of gunfire, Jones said. Police are searching for a dark-colored Nissan Sentra possibly used in the shooting.
"We can't tell you today whether Larry's BBQ was targeted or whether gunfire was exchanged in the street on 84," Jones said. "We are actively investigating this. We are not leaving one stone unturned."
Jones said extra officers will patrol Enterprise streets at night and investigate all cases "day and night."
"We want the public to know that we're making every effort that we can to clear up these crimes that are going on at this point right now," Jones said.
In every case, starting with the Boulevard Apartments shooting, the shooters appear to be "young people," Jones said.
"What we're asking the public to do is please come forward, no matter how little you think the information is, and give us the information on these shootings," Jones said.
Boswell echoed Jones' request for help from the citizens.
"If you've seen anything, know of anything, no matter how miniscule that it may be, I ask that you reach out to our police department," Boswell. "I promise you that these leads will be kept confidential."
Boswell said he has "absolute confidence" in the police department and has authorized Jones to use any resources to catch any suspects.
"I want to ensure the public that we are doing everything in our power to ensure that activity stops," Boswell said. "While it is difficult to predict criminal activity, I have authorized Chief Jones to use whatever resources his department needs to increase patrols and protect our citizens from this kind of activity."
Boswell said he has spoken to District Attorney Tom Anderson about bringing criminal charges against any suspects.
"He has assured me that once these people are apprehended, we will prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law," Boswell said.
Boswell said police will be on "high alert for any suspicious individuals or activity."
