Enterprise incumbent council remains

The municipal elections Aug. 28 resulted in a couple of key changes for area cities, including the change of mayor of two cities.

Both Daleville and New Brockton will be run by different leaders come November with the win of Claudia Wigglesworth in Daleville and Kathy Holley in New Brockton.

In the Enterprise municipal elections, the council will remain the same for the most part. Both incumbent council members running for re-election will remain on the city council.

In District 2, Councilman Tommy Johnson defeated Jim Reeves by 155 votes. Johnson received 304 votes to Reeves’ 149.

In District 3, Councilman Kirk Donaldson defeated challenger Viki Davis by 106 votes.

Donaldson received 368 to Davis’ 262.

The only change comes in District 5, which will be represented by Rhett Marques, who was unopposed in the election after current council member Paul Russell did not seek re-election.

Other unopposed councilmembers were William “Bill” Cooper in District 1 and Jones Wallace “Al” Miller in District 4.

Mayor Kenneth Boswell, also unopposed, will serve his third full term.

In the New Brockton mayoral race between Holley and Roy L Turner, Holley won by 28 votes, receiving 157 total votes against Turner’s 129.

Holley, currently the District 2 council 

member, will replace current mayor Lenwood Herron, who did not seek re-election.

This will be Holley’s second time serving as mayor. She served from 1992 until 1996.

Holley thanked Turner for running a good campaign.

Holley said she wants to work toward pulling the town together.

“It’s going to take more than the six of us (referring to the council) to do it,” Holley said. “I want all of us to take part.”

Her first action as mayor, she said, would be to get the town’s finances straightened out before moving on to seek out grants to improve the town and bring in new business.

In District 3, incumbent Jimmy Peacock defeated challenger Charles Schieffer with 39 votes to Scheiffer’s 29 votes.

In District 5, incumbent Sonny Eads defeated challenger Trenton Smith with 40 votes to Smith’s 14 votes.

In unopposed districts, District 1 will be represented by Billy R. Tindol, District 2 will be represented by Paula Cordle Bowman and District 4 will be represented by incumbent Jack Young.

In the Daleville mayoral race, four-term incumbent Wess Etheredge was defeated after receiving 323 votes to challenger Wigglesworth’s 397 votes.

Nine qualifiers sought positions on the council against incumbents Martha Gallo, Scott Moore, Bob Slagle and Alan Souders.

New council members, who are voted on at-large, are incumbents Alan Souders Bob Slagle and Scott Moore as well as newcomers Jimmy Seaton and Linda Pearson-Heffner.

Daleville also voted in favor of a special referendum with 511 votes to 186 to approve the sale of draft beer in the city.
