Flatiron transports one after single-vehicle accident in Daleville

A Headland man who was sent to the hospital with via Flatiron helicopter after a single-vehicle accident, July 26, remains in critical condition.
According to Daleville Department of Public Safety Chief Harvey Mathis, Rufus K. Volf, 28, was traveling toward Newton on Highway 134 when the UniFirst truck he was driving left the roadway and hit a cinder block wall at high speeds at the intersection of Highway 134 and Old Newton Road.
Daleville Department of Public Safety responded to the accident at about 8:45 a.m.
Shortly after, Flatiron was contacted to transport the victim to Southeast Alabama Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries sustained in the one-vehicle accident.
Mathis said the victim suffered multiple head injuries and several broken bones.
No passengers were in the vehicle. However, Mathis said, Volf was wearing a seat belt.
Traffic was backed up for about 30 minutes while Flatiron landed on the roadway, and the Daleville Department of Public Safety were on the scene.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Daleville Department of Public Safety.
