A New Brockton man is charged with assault after an early morning shooting in Enterprise.

Joshua Clayton Ward, 30, is charged with first-degree assault after a 4:26 a.m. shooting at the Waffle House on Boll Weevil Circle.

Enterprise Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Billy Haglund said that the shooting was apparently the result of a verbal and physical alternation that occurred inside the restaurant early Friday, Nov. 24.

The victim and Ward exited the restaurant and the altercation continued in the parking lot, Haglund said. “During the altercation in the parking lot, the suspect pulled a handgun and fired a single shot striking the victim in the leg. The victim was transported by air ambulance to a hospital for treatment.”

Ward was transported to the Coffee County Jail after arrest, Haglund said.
