The citizens of Enterprise came together to bring some relief to Lee County tornado victims over the weekend.
From March 15-17, the City of Enterprise held a Lee County tornado relief drive at Wal-Mart, calling for supplies to help lessen the impact of the March 3 tornado that took 23 lives and destroyed homes and communities.
The most needed items, according to the Coffee County EMA, were non-perishable foods, cleaning supplies, blankets, pillows, tools such as rakes, infant care items and new clothing.
The city also called for laundry detergent, fabric softener sheets, Ziploc baggies of all sizes, garbage bags of all sizes, household cleaning supplies, mops and brooms, dry cereal, coffee, creamer, sugar, a variety of juices and sodas, feminine hygiene products, baby and toddler snacks and other miscellaneous snacks.
Mayor William Cooper said the drive showed the community spirit of Enterprise citizens, and he was proud of all the support of the relief event.
“The generosity from our community was on full display this weekend,” he said. “To see hundreds of people willing to give of their time and money to provide resources for those in need, it truly is very humbling.
“We put this drive together not because we had to, but because we wanted to. These moments, when we look back on them, are what makes me proud to live in the greatest city in America.”
