The Daleville High School SGA is collecting items for a relief drive for victims of the March 3 tornado that took 23 lives.
The organization is calling for non-perishable food items, baby items, bottled water and cleaning materials. The drive will end on Friday, March 22.
Joseph Gordon, SGA secretary, has a special connection to the area that was affected. He once lived at Fort Benning, Ga.
“I was there for a couple of years, and I still have a couple of close friends that live over there,” he said. “Being a military kid, you move everywhere, and you get really close to people, but when I was there, that’s where I found who I was going to be. It’s really special.”
Because of his connection to the area affected by the March 3 tornado, he suggested the SGA hold a relief drive.
“A lot of the people are like my family, so when I heard the tornado was close to there and 23 people died… I was really worried about my people,” he said.
Donations may be dropped off at the front office of the high school.
“It’s other people’s lives,” Gordon said, calling for community support. “Just because we didn’t get hit that bad, it doesn’t mean somebody else’s life isn’t changed forever.”
