The New Brockton Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire on Highway 167 on Monday, Nov. 23.
The New Brockton VFD arrived on scene at 5:33 p.m. According to New Brockton Fire Chief Greg Lee, the Enterprise Fire Department arrived about two minutes later.
The fire affected two trailers, one placed in front of the other. One trailer was destroyed, while another received minimal damage.
"When we arrived on scene, there was a single-wide trailer behind this (front) trailer that was fully engulfed and burned down," Lee said.
According to Lee, the front trailer sustained some hot damage, including damage to the floor underneath the trailer and its back.
There were no injuries as a result of the fire, though the Coffee County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a domestic dispute at the same location.
According to Deputy Chief Ronnie Whitworth, hospital records of the victim indicated that a domestic dispute had occurred. Officers then began to look for the suspect, who had fled the scene.
Kenneth Paul Mclendon Jr., 38, of New Brockton, was arrested and charged with violation of probation, sexual torture and second-degree domestic violence.
He is currently being held at the Coffee County Jail. No bond has been set at this time.
Both the domestic dispute and the cause of the fire are still under investigation. It is unknown at this time if the fire is connected to the dispute.
