In the regular meeting of the Daleville City Council on Tuesday, Nov. 5, the council unanimously voted to approve a retail beer license for Dirt Road Hemp Co., located at 141 Daleville Avenue.

In the work session on Monday, prior to the Tuesday meeting, Daleville City Clerk Angelia Filmore explained that Dirt Road Hemp’s owners plan to offer haircuts along with CBD oil and that they have recently added a humidor.

“He (Kyle Humble) is calling it a ‘man spa’ and you come in and have a beer while they cut your hair,” Filmore said. “Right now he doesn't have the barber. He has the humidor. He has got one of those so, he is using the beer with the humidor more so than for the haircutting.”

Filmore told the council that Dirt Road Hemp Co., does not currently have a license for a barber and therefore has been asked to remove the sign advertising haircuts from in front of the business.

“He doesn't have a barber. He might have one in November. He doesn't even have a license to have a barber,” Filmore said. “We have asked him if he is not going to end up with a barber and he doesn't have a license for a barber, to take the sign down.”

In other business, the council unanimously voted to approve resolution 11-519 granting city employees off the day after Thanksgiving where possible.

The resolution states, “Where as the City of Daleville personnel policies and procedures manual establishes all holidays. There is no provision made to compensate for reduced activity accompanying a holiday, be it therefore resolved that the 29th day of November 2019, will be a day of diminished activity for city business. Each department head will ensure that those employees working under them will be only those needed for minimum coverage of their area of responsibility. If complete shut down can be scheduled this will be acceptable. Each department head where this is not possible will ensure equal free time for their employees on or before Feb. 5, 2020.”

In a final item of business, Daleville Mayor Jayme Stayton reappointed Michael Anderson to the Housing Authority Board for a term to expire in 2024.

The Daleville City Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers. Work sessions are held on the prior Monday at 5 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.
