The Level Plains City Council introduced multiple resolutions relating to the next election at its regular meeting on Aug. 20.
The Level Plains City Council also introduced an ordinance to increase the salary of the city’s next elected city council and mayor.
The motion to introduce the ordinance passed unanimously.
In other business, the council unanimously voted to introduce a resolution setting the election qualification fees at $30.
Ordinance number 359 sets the City of Level Plains water superintendent salary.
The mayor of the city also serves as the water superintendent of the city.
Mayor Bruce Grantham turned the gavel over to Mayor Pro Tem James Bullinger to introduce the ordinance.
The motion to introduce the resolution passed with three votes and Councilman Phillip Cole abstaining due to being related to Grantham to avoid a conflict of interest.
Another resolution setting the at-large election for the next city elections was introduced.
Grantham said he just wanted to get ahead on the upcoming election and introduce these ordinances now. All of the ordinances are subject to change and are still being decided at which future council meeting the vote to adopt will take place.
The council unanimously voted to introduce, dispense of the rules and adopt two resolutions.
The first is Resolution 309, which adopts a transportation plan as part of the requirement in the Rebuild Alabama Act commonly referred to as the 10 cents gas tax.
The second, Resolution 310, raises the salary of the lieutenant position at the Level Plains Police Department.
The city’s deferred prosecution ordinance was also introduced at the meeting.
The council approved sending out sealed gas bids for the city’s gasoline as well as the purchase of a new computer for the city clerk’s office for $1,668.
The council also approved the purchase of a set of chlorine scales for the Water Department at $1,500.
The next Level Plains City Council meeting will be Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. at Level Plains City Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
