There have been big wins and tough losses for area all-star baseball and softball teams in district tournaments, but the players have continued to represent their communities well.

Baseball

The Enterprise Machine Pitch Rookies won the district tournament championship June 20 with an 8-6 victory against Troy.

“It’s huge to go after what we started and what we’ve accomplished from here,” Enterprise coach Kevin Rhoades said. “The kids played (well). We (almost) let it get away from us there at the end, but they stuck with the game plan and finished it.”

With the win, Enterprise has earned a trip to the state tournament, which begins July 7 in Oxford.

The Enterprise Coach Pitch 6U Americans advanced in their district tournament with a 24-14 win against Luverne.

“We had some good defensive stops there in the later innings,” Enterprise coach Jeremy Trawick said. “We had a good home run by Bradon Cook, we had a good home run by Colt Mercer and some good hitting all through those other innings.”

The Americans will play June 21 at 6 p.m. against Eufaula.

The Enterprise Coach Pitch 8U team won 19-14 against Andalusia, and Sam Williams hit four home runs in the game.

Enterprise led 13-4 in the fourth before Andalusia drew within three. Enterprise had an answer each time Andalusia rallied, and earned the victory.

“They are by far the best team we have seen,” Enterprise coach Bryan Peacock said of Andalusia. “They’re a very solid team. They’re a very well-coached team, and they’ve got some great kids. It was a very good ball game. It was worth the $5 to come and watch.”

Enterprise plays June 21 at 7:30 p.m. against Zion Chapel in Geneva City Park.

The Enterprise Minor American Rookies won 20-1 against Eufaula to advance to the district championship game.

“We hit the ball and we played good defense,” Enterprise coach Chad Boutwell said. “We just had a good game.”

Enterprise will play at 6 p.m. June 21 against Troy for the district title.

The Enterprise Minor Americans were eliminated with a 9-3 loss against Eufaula.

Cade Kirkland hit a two-run triple. Brayson Richard also hit a triple and scored a run.

Enterprise coach Steven Law Law said Gavin Maund also stood out at the plate and defensively during the tournament.

“I’m just proud of the way they fought,” Law said. “We didn’t take the easy path. We had an uphill battle, but they worked and they fought. I couldn’t be more proud of them. It was an honor to coach them."

The Enterprise Ozone Rookies lost 7-6 in a hard-fought game against Troy, but finished runners up at the district tournament.

“Their bats got hot toward the end of the game,” Enterprise coach Scott Herrington said. “(Troy) had some timely base hits that put them up in the bottom of the fifth.”

The Ozone Rookie state tournament, which is open to district champions and runners up, begins July 7 in Oxford.

Softball

The Enterprise SweeTees advanced with a 15-12 victory against Troy after a Troy rally.

Za’Meria Adams had a three-run triple in the game.

Enterprise will play June 21 at 7:30 p.m. against Taylor-Rehobeth.

The Enterprise Darlings won 12-3 against Greenville.

Ally Zorn and Israel Hart hit home runs for Enterprise.

The Darlings also played well on defense.

“We fielded great,” Enterprise coach Gid Zorn said. “Alexis Strickland, Madilyn Jerkins, Ana Reynolds and Abby Jones all played great on the infield.”

Enterprise will play June 22 at 7:30 p.m. in their next game.

The Enterprise Ponytails were eliminated with an 8-0 loss against Luverne.

“We just had a rough night at the plate,” Enterprise coach Chris Mitten said. “I had the best group of girls and the best assistant coaches. I couldn’t be prouder of them.”
