Some all-star teams were eliminated June 18, but others lived to play another day as district tournaments continued for several local teams.

Baseball

The Enterprise Coach Pitch 6U Nationals were eliminated June 18 with an 18-8 loss against Luverne.

“Getting the ball in was an issue,” Enterprise coach Chase McCrea said. “Luverne came to the plate swinging the bat. There (isn’t) much you can do about it whenever they put the ball in play. They made plays when plays needed to be made, and we didn’t. Overall, I’m proud of the boys. It was a great tournament. I felt like all of the boys learned the game a little better.”

The Enterprise Coach Pitch 6U Americans will continue play in the tournament after a 24-22 win against Eufaula.

“It was a back-and-forth game,” Enterprise coach Jeremy Trawick said. “We made some errors defensively, but our hitting never gave up. Mason Moates hit a home run.”

Enterprise took the 24-22 lead in the fifth, and Trawick said the team played solid defense in the final frame.

The Americans will play June 20 at 6 p.m. against Luverne.   The Enterprise Machine Pitch team was eliminated June 18 with a 16-0 loss to Eufaula.

“They hit the ball pretty well,” Enterprise coach Jason Wood said. “We made a lot of tragic errors.”

Despite the loss, Wood said coaching the team was an honor.

“I’ve loved it,” he said. “All stars is a privilege and an honor, and just as much so to coach it. I enjoyed the boys and the fellowship. We had a good time. I wish it would have lasted a little longer.”

The Enterprise Machine Pitch Rookies beat Troy 11-1 June 18 in district play.

“We started off (well),” Enterprise coach Kevin Rhoades said. “The kids hit the ball. The defense was solid. They did (well). With this win they’re guaranteed (a trip to) state, but we want to win district.”

Enterprise will play June 20 at 6 p.m. against Troy in the championship game.

The Enterprise Coach Pitch 8U team won 22-7 June 18 against Slocomb in three innings.

After Slocomb scored five runs in the top of the first, Enterprise took an 8-5 lead in the bottom half and didn’t look back.

“We hit the ball well,” Enterprise coach Bryan Peacock said.

Enterprise will play at 7:30 p.m. June 20 against Andalusia at Geneva City Park.

The Enterprise Minor American Rookies won two games June 18 in district play.

The Americans defeated the Enterprise Minor National Rookies 15-2 in the opener behind a no-hitter from Cayden Boutwell and solid defense.

“We had two leadoff walks that turned into runs…but we pitched a no-hitter,” Americans coach Chad Boutwell said. “Every defensive play was made. Tyren (Clayton), my center fielder, came up and made a diving catch to end the game. He saved the no-hitter.”

The Nationals were eliminated with a loss to Troy.

The Americans then shut out Eufaula 16-0 in four innings and allowed just one hit.

Clayton pitched the second game.

“(We’re) just playing ball,” Boutwell said. “We’re just focused every pitch (and) making every pitch count.”

The Americans will play in the championship game June 21 at 6 p.m. against Troy.

The Enterprise Minor Americans won 10-2 June 19 against Pea River.

"We just had some good pitching and played fundamental ball," Enterprise coach Steven Law said.

Warren Axton, Caleb Poarch and Seth Graham all pitched for the Americans.

Enterprise will play June 20 at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of the Slocomb-Eufaula game.

The New Brockton All Stars were eliminated June 18 after a 12-0 loss against Geneva.

“We didn’t hit the ball, and (we) made a couple of errors,” New Brockton coach Joe Simmons said. “That’s the first time New Brockton had an all-star team in three or four years. It was something for them.”

The Enterprise Ozone Rookies won 29-3 June 18 against Eufaula in three innings.

Triston Bartling hit a grand slam in the top of the third frame.

Dylan Grantham pitched the first two innings, and Owen Burrow threw the last frame.

Enterprise will play June 20 at 6 p.m. against Troy.

Softball

The Enterprise SweeTees went 2-0 to open the district tournament.

Enterprise defeated Eufaula 18-9 in the opener June 18, and earned a 17-6 victory against Luverne.

“We hit the ball (well) today,” Enterprise coach Steve McCoy said. “Avery McCoy, Addy Whaley, Za’Meria Adams and Autumn Newell had big hits. They all had triples. In the (second) game…everybody hit the ball well, and we played really good defense tonight.”

Enterprise will play Troy June 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Troy Sportsplex.

The Enterprise Darlings split their first two games in district play.

Enterprise lost against Geneva 16-10 June 18 after Geneva scored seven unanswered runs, including a grand slam, for the win. The Darlings rebounded with a 13-3 victory against Elba.

“We hit the ball better,” Enterprise coach Gid Zorn said of the second game. “We fielded the ball a lot better. Abby Jones hit well with a couple of RBIs. Anna Blackmon (did) the same thing. In the field, Madilyn Jerkins made some great plays. It was just a team effort.”

The Darlings will play June 20 at 6 p.m. against Greenville at the Troy Sportsplex.

The Enterprise Ponytails also split their first two games.

They lost against Opp 4-2 June 18 in the opener, and beat Geneva 13-2 in four innings.

“We hit the ball hard,” Enterprise coach Chris Mitten said of the win. “We ran bases. (We) were aggressive. Savannah Mitten pitched the whole game (and) only gave up two runs. The girls came back and battled. They played to win.”

The Ponytails will play June 20 at 6 p.m. against Luverne at the Troy Sportsplex.

The Enterprise Belles were eliminated June 18 after a 12-6 loss against Luverne and a 13-2 defeat against Eufaula.
